Brian Davis is an Of Counsel Attorney at Red House Law PC and the founder and owner of Davis Law PLLC. Mr. Davis is based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Mr. Davis is of Japanese American descent, and his grandfather was interned in the Japanese Internment Camps during World War II. Because of his heritage, Mr. Davis has dedicated his practice to battling injustice by serving tribes and tribal members.
Mr. Davis’ passion to serve tribal members started in law school when he participated in the Tribal Wills Project. He traveled to reservations in New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and Montana and listened to tribal members tell their stories. He then empowered the members by drafting estate documents carrying out the members’ customs and traditions.
Mr. Davis pursued opportunities to work with indigenous courts and secured a clerkship with Chief Justice F. Michael Kruse of the High Court of American Samoa after law school. Mr. Davis moved to American Samoa and learned about Fa’a Samoa (the Samoan Way of Life) and the importance of strong government action in protecting Fa’a Samoa. Mr. Davis was moved by the Samoans’ dedication to protecting their rights and published an article advocating for the recognition of, and deference to, indigenous sovereignty.
In 2019, Mr. Davis moved to Utah and started working for Utah Legal Services in the Native American Unit. In this role, Mr. Davis forged relationships with members from the various tribes in Utah. He also got involved with the Utah State Bar Indian Law Section and led the inaugural Indian Law Conference focused on tribal sovereignty, water law, and the Indian Child Welfare Act. Because of his extensive work in Indian Country, Mr. Davis was asked to sit on the Utah State Court Tribal Liaison Committee.
Mr. Davis is an experienced litigator with an extensive background in tribal courts. He currently serves three tribes as a child welfare attorney, election law attorney, and prosecutor. Mr. Davis previously represented tribes as general counsel developing tribal codes, regulations, and tribally-owned companies.
